General Dentistry
As general dentists, Dr. Ali Ismail and Dr. Carla Ismail see their roles as your educators, explaining conditions and all available treatments, in addition to helping you make choices that can impact the health of your smile for a lifetime. Dr. Ali and Dr. Carla are so trusted by the Canton community that they are often sought out for second opinions.
Our dentists spend time speaking with patients and getting to know their medical and dental histories so that they can recommend treatments based on your current needs. Since your oral health can change throughout your lifetime due to pregnancy, aging, or even medical issues, we keep your information up-to-date to ensure you always get the exact dental care that will benefit you most.
A Foundation in Preventive Dentistry
At Sheldon Family Dental, the foundation of our practice starts with prevention. Did you know that you can avoid many common problems like gum disease, decay, infections, broken teeth, and even dental emergencies with a dedicated combination of excellent home care and regular dental visits?
Preventive treatments such as dental exams, teeth cleanings, x-rays, nightguards, and mouthguards can help you keep your teeth for a lifetime.
For children, our dentists may offer cavity preventing treatment such as fluoride or dental sealants, but only if they think your little one needs it to combat decay. As with adults, each child has different needs, and they enjoy the same customized care as mom and dad.
Dental Restorations That Repair and Replace Teeth
Since few adults will escape the need for at least one filling or crown over the course of a lifetime, our dentists take enormous care to design each one to fit perfectly, function comfortably, and to last with the proper care.
Fillings – When decay affects your teeth, natural-looking tooth-colored fillings can seal the area and blend in with your smile. For larger cavities or to replace old metal fillings, a dental crown might be better suited and last longer.
Crowns – Dental crowns are one of the most versatile restorations because they repair, protect, and reshape teeth. Broken, cracked, worn, deeply decayed, and root canal-treated teeth can all benefit from durable dental crowns.
Veneers – If you are not happy with the appearance of your teeth, dental veneers can provide a solution. Veneers cover the front of the teeth to reshape and add length to worn-down teeth. They can also cover stubborn discoloration for a brighter appearance.
Bonding – Small chips in teeth might benefit from bonding. While not appropriate for big changes, bonding provides a non-invasive way to make small improvements using the same tooth-colored composite resin we use for fillings.
When you have an extraction, or multiple extractions, replacing missing teeth can keep your remaining teeth in alignment and make it easier to chew. Dental implants and bridges are options, and for patients who have more extreme tooth loss, partial dentures, and complete dentures are also alternatives.
Dental Emergency Appointments
If you experience pain, a toothache, or swelling, our dentists will help you regain your comfort and health with prompt treatment. We strive to treat dental emergencies on the same day and also provide root canal treatment right here in our Canton dental practice for the convenience of our patients.
We Look forward to Welcoming You
We warmly welcome new patients of all ages and look forward to your call. We offer both early morning and evening hours to make getting your dental care easier for busy family schedules.

Frequently Asked Questions
Many of us had metal fillings as kids, and they have been there ever since. Although there is nothing wrong with having metal fillings, we do recommend that you have them evaluated by Dr. Ali or Dr. Carla. Because of the expansion and contraction that is common in metal, these fillings can develop small cracks or pull away from the tooth, leaving it vulnerable to bacteria and decay down the road.
Most dentistry will need to be replaced at some point if you have it for a long time.
Of course, if you dislike the color of your metal fillings and prefer a more natural-looking option, we are happy to discuss tooth-colored fillings and crowns with you. We safely remove any metal and clean the area before adding the correct shade of composite to the tooth.
Some large metal fillings might need a dental crown rather than a filling because metal fillings require the removal of more tooth structure to anchor in place. In some cases, not enough healthy tooth structure remains for a white filling. Our dental crowns are natural-looking and durable.
Give us a call at our Canton dental office to learn more about replacing metal dentistry, or to book an appointment to replace older dentistry.
